Golf courses worthy of a vacation right here in Canada

5 Incredible golf courses you can visit right here in Canada

As the year progresses, we find ourselves thinking about enjoying some great golf and balmy vacation destinations. Current travel restrictions may have you worried about your options, but what better time to explore the gems within our own borders! Canada is home to some of the best golf courses in the world, with beauty and challenges that can stand toe-to-toe with anywhere else in the world. Here’s our hand-selected top five golf vacation spots in Canada.

Greywolf Golf Course – British Columbia

At the Panorama Mountain Resort among the Purcell Mountains, not only are you playing on a world class course, you are surrounded by the Canadian mountains in all their beauty. Their world famous “Cliffhanger Hole” will be an experience you talk about for years!

After a day of sportsmanship and natural beauty, you can enjoy some of the finest Canadian cuisine at the Cliffhanger Restaurant which overlooks the 18th hole. There’s something for everyone and no end of breathtaking views.

Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf – Alberta

Located in the Canadian Rockies, this golf course has been thrilling golfers since 1925. In 1994 the lodge actually restored the course to its initial layout, designed by Canada’s master golf course architect, Stanley Thompson.

This course uses the environment’s own topography to create a thrilling experience surrounded by the magnificence of nature.

For those in your party less golf-inclined, a trip to the Jasper ice fields will provide an unparalleled thrill. Meet back up at the hotel spa for a massage and a steam.

St. George’s Golf and Country Club – Ontario

Sometimes the most amazing places can be found in our own backyards! Find another Stanley Thompson treasure, hidden away in Etobicoke. St. George’s has been host to the Canadian Open five times and is scheduled to host again in 2021; it was also ranked 30th in the world by Golf Digest magazine in 2014. To play here is to truly be surrounded by luxury.

The club is close to all the Greater Toronto Area has to offer, and is just a short ride from Casa Loma, a thrilling heritage site with a fascinating history; did you know Casa Loma used to host mid-century ‘sock hops’?

Le Diable (Fairmont Tremblant) – Quebec

While you look around in wonder at the beauty of the Laurentian mountains, you can challenge yourself on Le Diable. This course will test the mettle of even the best golfer!

In addition to the outstanding golf courses, Tremblant also offers a pedestrian village steeped in old world charm with a tempting variety or restaurants and shopping. Our recommendation: take a helicopter ride over the hills or rent a dune buggy and take an off-road adventure.

Cabot Links – Nova Scotia

If you’ve never experienced the beauty of Cape Breton then this is the place for you. As you play each hole you can gaze over the ocean and feel the stresses of life disappear in the breeze. In 2017, Golf Digest magazine scored Cabot Links at #43 on their World’s 100 Greatest Golf courses and once you’re here, you’ll know why.

Nestled beside the village of Inverness, there’s no end to things you can do when you’re not golfing. Visit Glenora Distillery, the home of North America’s first single malt whiskey, shopping for wares on The Artisan Trail, or just browse locally made and grown products in the Mabou Farmers’ Market.
